Imagine the scene. Barack Obama, in the Oval Office of the White House, and Justin Trudeau, at his office in the Langevin Block, have to discuss an urgent issue via videoconference. Contact is established, both men exchange the usual greetings and, through a robot interface called HARRI, they warmly shake hands, as if they were standing in the same room.
It seems inconceivable, but the work done by Clément Gosselin's team at the Mechanical Engineering Department could theoretically turn this idea into reality. Demand for such a system is very hypothetical, admits Professor Gosselin right off the bat, but the science on which it is based could lead to some very practical health telematics applications.
