Student Award of Merit

Yixin Deng, an undergraduate student at McGill University, is convinced that the engineering profession revolves around two key principles: sustainable development and diversity.

She wants to apply this philosophy to the field of energy by promoting investment in green technologies within the oil industry.

Her flair for entrepreneurship has allowed her to create two businesses during her studies and act in various capacities at different companies in the oil industry.
She shares her enthusiasm by participating in several projects aimed at developing leadership in young people and encouraging them to pursue an education in engineering.
In addition to her academic and professional activities, Yixin Deng is involved in several community and extra-curricular organizations. She reaffirms the importance of developing business acumen in engineering students through the various NOBE (National Organization for Business and Engineering) positions she holds. Her social commitment experience takes many forms, such as with Engineers Without Borders, the Canadian Red Cross and the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
Yixin Deng has received several prestigious awards, such as the Excelle Science Award of Québec’s ministry of education and higher learning. In addition to all this, she still finds time to play sports and music. Finally, her marked interest in dragon boat racing has seen her reach the top of the podium several times.
